We are a Family-owned Licensed Post Office. The Gulgong Post Office has been operating continuously from the same building since 1879, making it one of the oldest continually operating Post Offices in Australia.

We offer a full range of Australia Post services including passport interviews, quality photos for passports and other identity needs. We also have a wide range of travel services, bill payment, banking services, a wide range of greeting cards and gift lines as well as all packaging needs.

Mail is received each morning and collected each day at 2:30pm Mon-Thur and 4:30pm on Friday. We open at 8am and close 5pm Monday to Friday, except Public Holidays.

Post Office Boxes

Home isn’t your only delivery address. Get your mail sent to a private address that doesn’t have to change

We have a range of small, medium, and large PO Boxes available to rent. We can notify you by email when your PO Box has mail. Mail is delivered every weekday and is usually ready for collection by 10:30am.

You might consider renting a PO Box if:

You're not home during the day and want your mail and parcels delivered to a safe place.
You want to keep your home address private
You want to keep your online shopping separate from your regular mail
You move regularly and want to keep the same address so you don't risk missing any mail
You share a house and want to keep your mail and parcels seperate from your housemates

Red Post Boxes

If you receive a parcel that does NOT require a signature and is too big to fit in your PO Box we will put a Red Door Key into your PO Box. Use the key to open one of the red PO Boxes and then return the Red Door Key into the Key Return slot. If your parcel requires a signature we will put a Parcel Card into your PO Box. Bring the Parcel Card into the Post Office and we will retrieve your parcel (Photo ID may be required to collect parcels).

Reduced Rate PO Boxes

Many streets, lanes and roads in the 2852 postcode do NOT receive a mail delivery. If you live at an address that does not have mail service you may qualify for a Reduced Rate Post Office Box. If you do not open a PO Box your mail will be Returned To Sender.

Note: Reduced Rate PO Boxes are only available when your address does not receive a mail delivery. It is not available just because you don't have a letterbox.

Mail Delivery

Mail is delivered within the Gulgong Town limits every business day. Mail is delivered to areas outside of Gulgong three days a week (Mon, Wed, Fri). The delivery time changes depending on the quantity of mail to be delivered.

Where's my parcel?

You can find out where your parcel is by entering your tracking number here. We are unable to find your parcel without a tracking number.

All parcels sent by Australia Post have a tracking number. If you don't have a tracking number contact the sender; they will have been given a tracking number by Australia Post when they sent the parcel.

How do I collect my parcel?

If you were out (or did not answer the door) when the postman came with your parcel you would have received a Parcel Card. The Parcel Card will tell you what time your parcel will be available for collection at the Gulgong Post Office and give you the tracking number of the parcel.

You must bring Photo ID when collecting your parcel. If you are collecting a parcel on behalf of someone else you will need their signed, written authority. There is a section on the back of the Parcel Card they can complete to give you authority to collect the parcel on their behalf.

When will my letter be delivered?

In 2016 Australia Post introduced 2-speed mail delivery. Regular mail is delivered within 3-10 business days. Priority mail is delivered within 2-4 business days. Priority mail is available for all mail by adding a 50¢ Priority Mail stamp in addition to the regular postage.

You can also send your letter by Express Post. Express Post mail sent from Gulgong is guaranteed to be delivered in Sydney by 5pm the next business day (The Mail Truck leaves Gulgong at 2:30 Mon-Thur and 4:30 Fri. This is the same Mail Truck that takes Mudgee's mail, so there is no speed increase if your letter is posted in Mudgee). Gulgong is not part of the Express Post Network so there is no delivery guarantee to any other destination other than Sydney. Despite this, Express Post is the fastest way to send your mail and comes with the added bonus of complete tracking for the entire journey.

Customers in the Post Office will always be given priority over telephone callers. The Post Office is often busy so your phone message may not be heard until after we close. We are forbidden to give out any private information over the telephone (this includes information about "your" parcel, or someone's PO Box number).
